Organic products have gotten a lot of publicity recently with more and more people realizing their benefits for personal and environmental health. If you are considering switching from conventional products to organic products there are many reasons to do so.
Organic products help to keep chemicals and other toxins out of your body and out of the environment. Conventional farms use toxic chemicals, fertilizers, pesticides that leach into the soil, water, and air exposing everyone in the environment to these toxins. A huge percentage of farms in the U.S. are conventional meaning that they produce nutritionally inferior products – in contrast to the nutritionally superior organic products- the growing of which also harms the environment.
While most of the toxins and chemicals used in conventional farming were tested for safety before they were approved for use, they were tested for adult tolerance not for infants and children. Studies now indicate that the toxins deemed safe for adult exposure may adversely impact infants and children because of their smaller size and developing bodies.
Eating organic products also means that you are avoiding cloned and genetically modified foods. These practices were quickly approved by the FDA and al the risks may not have been detected. If you want to avoid genetically altered foods buying organic products is the only way to do so because it is impossible to tell if foods from conventional farms have been genetically altered.
Organic products in the form of foods have been scientifically proven to be better for you than conventionally grown foods. They contain more vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and other nutrients than conventional foods grown in depleted soil that relies on chemical fertilizers. Not only are organic products better for you, but studies have shown that they also taste better. Foods grown without chemicals are better for you, the environment and have better flavor than conventional foods.
Organic farms promote biodiversity by providing a place for local flora and fauna to live. When you buy local organic products you are also supporting your local economy so you know your money will stay in your community.
