Why Organic Baby Clothes

What are organic baby clothes and why should one consider them as a norm in their infants’ life?  Organic baby clothes are products that are made from certified organic products such as organically grown cotton.  The difference between organically grown cotton and the traditional method is that organically grown cotton does not use the pesticides and chemical fertilizers like the traditional cotton producer would use.  This lessened the environmental pollution of fertilizer up to 25% and more then 10% on pesticides.  If more cotton were grown organically, the reduction of such pollutants would be tremendous.  Purchasing organic baby clothes encourages farmers to follow the green way to help save the planet.  The two biggest producers of organic cotton are Turkey and the United States. 

There is no better time to start then now, if you are with child or know of someone who has an infant or has a baby on the way, organic baby clothes not only show you care about the baby’s health but the environment as well. Organic baby clothes follow a strict standard.  The main principals that organic baby clothes producers must abide by to have their product labeled organic.  Products must contain at least 70% of 100% organically produced cotton.  The organic cotton must contain 95% of organically grown cotton and must be labeled with the percentage of organically used cotton used to produce the organic baby clothes or any organic made material.

So other then the environmental factor, one may wonder what it is about organic baby clothes that make them better then traditionally made baby clothes. One of the benefits is that organic baby clothes are much softer then the traditional cotton material baby clothes. This is softer on your baby’s skin and more comfortable for your baby to wear. Traditional methods of growing cotton and production of cotton material from the processing to the dying aspects weakens the cotton fiber, which in turn lessened the life of the product. Organic baby clothes produced from organic cotton have longlivity and can be passed down for years and still hold up to an active baby’s life.

Organic baby clothes are becoming more in demand as more people are becoming aware of their environment and the benefits that purchasing organic baby clothes have for their child. It is a small step in raising healthier children in a healthier environment, however more needs to be done and through supporting organically made products brings us one step closer to a healthier world.
